Field Study 1: Assabet Vocational High School

Field Study II: Nipmuc Regional High School
|
Student Teaching Practicum: Bellingham High School |
My first experience in the classroom as a student teacher was in 2012 when I took the observation portion of my field study class at Assabet Valley High School in Marlborough, Ma. While observing I learned much about the operations of a class, as well as teaching methods/strategies targeted to individual student needs.

My experience at Nipmuc High School allowed me to take a more prominent role in the classroom through the implementation of lesson plans and class procedures. The faculty were warm and inviting and attempted to teach me as much as possible. After my field II experience was complete, I returned to Nipmuc High School as a substitute teacher from September 14' to January 15'.

As a student teacher at Bellingham High School, I was tasked with the daily routines of a full time teacher. I strove towards the creation of goal oriented units with a focus on student-centered lessons and assessments. Working closely with my supervising practitioner, I was able to implement many lessons that focused on building reading, writing and historical thinking skills. I monitored student progress through the use of a grade book and the IPass system. I also worked closely with parents through written communication and through parent-teacher conferences. Technology is becoming an ever more important feature in the design and implementation of lesson plans, and I was able to successfully incorporate instructor/student technology use through research projects, Web Quests, and interactive simulations.

Blackstone-Millville Regional
Prior to teaching English at the high school level, I taught a history summer course at Blackstone-Millville Regional High School. This was my first teaching experience outside of my practicum and went very smoothly. I created lessons that focused on student research and geography skills. Students enjoyed many of the activities in this course and all made progress towards the learning goals. Every student was able to pass this course and I gained valuable experience in the classroom.
Nipmuc High School
Teaching English at the high school level was an amazing experience which has helped me grow as an educator. Teaching English at Nipmuc was my first full-time teaching experience. By the end of my first year, I had seen tremendous growth in my abilities. I attribute this to the collaboration I experienced with my mentor and peers, the implementation of a range of teaching strategies, my extensive use of technology through the student 1:1 Ipad initiative, and the relationships I developed with my students. While at Nipmuc I was involved actively in the community. I was the assistant coach for the JV baseball team, ran the shot clock at the basketball games, chaperoned a day trip to New York City, and a week-long trip to Washington D.C., ran an after-school video game club for a social skills club, and chaperoned dances.
